You might be well aware of what a call waiting feature is. Call waiting feature allows you to attend other people’s call at the same time when you are already on another line. It helps you to carry out dual communication, which means that you can talk to the second and the first callers both, simply by putting one on hold and speaking to the other.
This added facility helps you in communicating with both the callers, while not missing out on important or emergency phone calls. Switching or swapping calls from both the callers is not at all difficult and you wouldn’t have to terminate any of your incoming calls. So, to be able to get advantage of this facility, you need to notify your phone company. Call waiting facility is offered in POTS and also provided by mobile phone companies, but now this beneficial feature also comes in Voice over Internet Protocol or VoIP service. Many Voip service providers offer call-waiting service features, apart from many others, for free along with the basic calling plan you choose for calls.
When comparing your ordinary phone and Voip service, you will notice that call waiting feature – along with other facilities such as call blocking, caller ID, call rejection etc. are charged for extra in your traditional phone. Your voip service does not charge for these value-added Voip features.
Voip service has multiple benefits and features which are offered in a much better package and cost, compared to how much your traditional phone carriers charge you with. Voip or POTS? I’d vote for Voip!
If you have Voip phone service already, check what your service package plan you chose is offering. In case you see that your call waiting feature is available but whether it is activated or not, simply dial your Voip service customer or visit the website and have your service activated.
After it is activated, do verify to see if it’s functional or not. It can easily be noticed when you are on a call, you will hear a beep sound which indicates that there is another person making you a call at the same time when you are already on another line with somebody else.
Now, how do we take this incoming call? When you hear the beep sound, simply press the ‘flash’ button. This in turn, will put the first caller on hold and will simultaneously connect you across with the new incoming caller. Of you press the flash button again, you will be swapped back to the first caller.
You should familiarize yourself with numerical keys which are assigned to direct and redirect calls. Although, they may be different in other calling instruments, even within the instruments offered by a VoIP service provider.
If you have encountered a problem, ask for technical assistance from your VoIP service provider. All the calls which you don’t feel like answering, will simply be directed to your voice mail box when not answered. Also, you can always activate or deactivate the call waiting feature whenever you wish to.
